Tropical Cyclone Jasper Update 3 – Friday 8 December 2023 at 1700

As predicted, TC Jasper has intensified to a Category 4 strength system and is moving slowly SSW and is approximately 1200kms ENE of Cairns.

It’s widely agreed that TC Jasper will weaken over the weekend and its track will shift more westerly. The most recent impact area has been revised to the coast between Cape Melville and Townsville which is a shift further north from yesterday’s predictions. The timing and severity of Jasper’s landfall is thought to be mid next week but windsheer closer to the Queensland coast may allow for the system to re-intensify so when and where it goes is not yet clear. Consequently, there remains the need to continue with your preparations and to closely monitor the system’s progress over the ensuing days.

We will continue to monitor the TC Jasper updates from BOM and other forecasters and will provide our Marina customers with notices of any notable changes to the predictions for Jasper and corresponding changes we make to our Cyclone Warning System in accordance with our Cyclone Management Plan (CMP).

For now, there are no declared Warning or Watch Zones so Breakwater Marina will remain in Condition Green which is the first and normal state of readiness phase of our Cyclone Warning System under our Cyclone Management Plan.   

It helps our Emergency Management enormously if you can send us a message when you’ve completed your own preparations so we can track the progress of all boat owners. And finally, should you identify any problems or concerns around the Marina, please let us know as soon as practicable so we can assess it and deliver a solution if necessary.
