Prior to relocating from the Gold Coast, if someone was to tell me that I was going to live in Townsville, I would have excused them for lunacy. Given the expectation of a northern regional town, I was blown away by the liveability of the city when I was afforded the opportunity to inspect the region. Now, short of calling myself a local, I have relocated with my family and look forward to embracing a new way of life, integrating ourselves into the community and exploring the areas natural assets.
I have had an association with the Marina Industry for all of my professional life and now manage Townsville's progressive Breakwater Marina. I was lured to Townsville, excited at the future prospects of the region and the facility knowing that north Queensland was an extraordinary boating haven for permanent and cruising vessels.
I am really enthusiastic about adopting many of the project management, tourism and marina industry skills learned in my previous postings and am keen to establish Breakwater as an iconic waterfront precinct in conjunction with various prominent commercial and residential surrounding developments.
Breakwater Marina is responding to Queensland's dynamic Marine and Leisure Industries by implementing extensions and upgrading infrastructure. These works reflect the demand of the modern vessel owner who expects contemporary design and advanced services coupled with high levels of customer service. The affluent generation 'X' is affording larger vessels and the lure of Australia's idyllic north east coast and lifestyle is beckoning our international visitors.
The staged development of Breakwater Marina will see an additional 197 berths with a vital increase in the number of multi-hull berths and larger berths up to 30m. The marina extensions will increase our original capacity from 224 wet berths to 421 establishing Breakwater Marina firmly as one of the largest premiere facilities in the country.
